Notes from the Polish-Belarusian Border
The drawings accompanied my essay published under the title 'Im dunklen Versteckwald' in the newspaper Neues Deutschland.
The text relates the situation in eastern Poland in 2021, when people trying to cross the border between Belarus and Poland were pushed-back from one side to the other, often with fatal consequences. In 2022, the Polish authorities built a wall between the countries to prevent people on the move from crossing the border, dividing the one of the oldest primary forests in Europe, the Białowieża Forest, in half.
