Last night I had a dream, which may have a meaning

With these words begins one of the first feminist utopian stories “Man’s Rights; Or How Would You Like It?” written in 1870 by an american writer and activist Annie Denton Cridge.

Cridge describes here a vision of the world, in which gender roles are reversed; men take care of the house and children, they are deprived of voting rights and are invisible in a public sphere. They are irritated and overworked, they busy themselves with home chores, helping their offspring to get ready to school, washing dishes and putting wood into fireplaces; simultaneously their wives occupy themselves with reading morning newspapers.

From the narrator’s point of view men are absolutely unattractive, their complaining voices irritating, their lack of good manners violate her sense of good taste; women however — all day long absent from home, impatiently awaited by their children and husbands — are portrayed as beautiful, witty and independent.

Utopia of the Virtual Feminist University is a no!place, in which the patriarchal logic of domination — after its inversion— is being rejected, here the humanlike is a democratic addition to the complexity of organic matter. What counts as society is performed wide, transgressing the possibilities of anthropocentric rationality constraints. The orientation in space is facilitated by smell, taste and intuition.

In order to embody the idea of the VFU it is recommended to keep the eyes closed, take a horizontal position, connect a bloodstream through a bluetooth with a server — download a virtual utopia; digest and converse — so as to smoothly introduce the organism on a digital metabolic path.

Virtual Feminist University is a process of situating utopia

Imagine a place in the very center of a net — nicely warm, smelling of wet vanilla, of residual clay soil, shaded. The crackled syllables of Nina Simone flowing into the auricles, bits coding the accents, some creaks, quivering of burning wood and now „Space Is Only Noise If You Can See“, ta ta tara rara ta ta ta ta. Semidarkness — inside it the Virtual Feminist University has its residue — virtual underbelly pulsing with fresh life.

You are walking downstairs, slowly, carefully, touching the soft palate of an info-sphere, the deeper you are the — just until now squeezed — body is more prone to the process of de-pixelisation; you are losing the compass of conventional identities; constructions, on which your humanistic symbolic presumptions hitherto depended on, are breaking down under the moderate pressure of algorithms.

Give up everything you know so far, you are 1/3 of the way

It is time to negotiate separation from the world of concrete oppositions, which anyhow, was never yours.

Don’t be afraid, a lot of us are already here. You are awaited by: Ursula Le Guin, Joanna Russ, Alexandra Kollontai, Audre Lorde and Monique Wittig. Judy Chicago is in charge of personalisation of the table, of the music arrangement — Delia Derbyshire. And it is all just to keep the vibrant ions moving and for the alchemy of liquid electrolytes to be conducted.

Work means violence, but you know it already, don’t you?

We will celebrate the descent to the iron reserves of the fertile codes under the eiderdown of retinal displays.

Utopia is not about changing roles, it is about producing worlds.

I would be very happy to feel you around,

Zofia nierodzinska
