the opening of the 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival with the title „SATT“ (Full) takes place in the ALTE KINDL BRAUEREI (Vollgutlager) Rollbergstr. 26, 12053 Berlin at 9 pm on Friday (24.06).
I will show there my film „Sezon“, which I made two years ago whilst studying at the Universität der Künste and earning my living as a waitress at one of the Asparagus farms next to Berlin. The film is based on the stories of Mrs. Ewa and Renata, who since more than fifteen years come to Germany to pick up Asparagus, which is more than just a vegetable here, it is a part of the national identity. It has a long history as an aristocratic delicacy, brought to Germany by Romans already in the second century A.D. In Beelitz, which is an Asparagus Mecca, Spargelfests are taking place every year, at the beginning of the season in April and at the end of it in the late June. One of the highlights of the fest is an Asparagus queen contest, traditional dance of Spargelfrauen, music and of course food specialities with the Asparagus in the main role.
Mrs. Ewa and Renata told me, that they normally do not take part in the fest.
